DRURY WINS GLVC’S COMMISSIONER’S CUP

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— For the second time in school history, Drury University has won the Commissioner’s Cup from the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

The Panthers earned the award for 2021-22 by posting the strongest finish in the league’s seven core sports. Points are allocated for the Commissioner’s Cup based on the athletic department’s finish in the GLVC’s postseason tournaments and league standings in men’s soccer, women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, softball, and baseball. All 15 conference members sponsor these sports at the intercollegiate level.

In one of the closest races in league history, Drury earned 77 points over the course of the academic year, besting runners-up Indianapolis and Lewis by a single point, as those schools tied for second with 76 points. Missouri-St. Louis was edged with its 75 points to capture fourth place in the standings, while last year’s champion, Southern Indiana, snagged fifth with 71 points.

Drury won three GLVC championships in 2021-22. Women’s soccer won their first title since 2007 when they took the league tournament championship with a 2-0 win over Southern Indiana on Nov. 14. The Drury Lady Panthers won an unprecedented sixth consecutive women’s basketball championship winning the GLVC Tournament on March 6 in a 76-47 win over Lewis. Drury teams reached the postseason in five of the seven GLVC core sports and reached the semifinal round in baseball, softball, and men’s soccer.

Drury’s last Commissioner’s Cup championship was in 2014-15.
