Tigers Open Road Trip at Kansas

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri baseball (26-22) begins its season-ending road trip with a Tuesday visit to Kansas (20-32). First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.

The Tigers and Jayhawks are meeting for the second time this season after Mizzou rolled to a 14-6 win on April 6 in Columbia.

Fans can also catch Mizzou baseball on the airwaves all season long on KTGR and the Tiger Radio Network. Tex Little and Matt Michaels will have the call.

PITCHING PROBABLES

Mizzou will send left-hander Christian Wall to the mound for his fourth start of the season. Wall owns a 5.04 ERA in 25 innings of work. The lefty has been strong as of late, allowing just three runs in his last 10.2 innings. Over the five-outing span, Wall has struck out 14 while walking six and scattering six hits. 

Kansas will start right-hander Jake Adams who also started the previous meeting in Columbia. Adams surrendered seven runs, six earned, on six hits in two innings. For the season, he owns a 9.61 ERA in 39.1 innings of action. 

SERIES BUSINESS

  • Mizzou and Kansas meet for the 349th time on Tuesday night. The Tigers own a commanding 217-129-2 mark in the all-time series.
  • Tuesday is the second meeting of the season. Mizzou raced to a 7-0 lead in the first two innings in the previous matchup, cruising to a 14-6 win over the rival Jayhawks.
  • In known meetings in Lawrence, Mizzou holds a 68-52 record.
  • Fox Leum and Tre Morris each homered in the previous meeting against the Jayhawks this season.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Missouri dropped a tight rubber match, 4-3, to Florida on Sunday afternoon. The series loss snapped a string of three-straight series wins at home for the Tigers.
  • Luke Mann launched his 15th home run of the season as part of back-to-back long balls along with Trevor Austin.
  • Austin recorded a hit in all three games of the series and has now hit in 18 of the past 19 games for Mizzou.

TIGERS TURNING TWO

  • Mizzou is tied atop the SEC and 18th nationally with 44 double plays on the season.
  • The Tigers also sit 14th in the country in turning 0.92 double plays per game, leading the SEC.
  • 26 of the Tigers’ twin killings have come in SEC play, a mark that leads the conference.
  • The Tigers turned five double plays over the weekend against Florida, the most in a series this season.
  • Mizzou turned three double plays in the Saturday win over Florida, marking the third time the Tigers recorded three double plays in a game this season.
  • The 44 double plays are the most for a Mizzou team since 2018 when the Tigers turned 46.

AUSTIN’S STREAK

  • Sophomore Trevor Austin had his 15-game hitting streak snapped in the finale at Ole Miss, but is still one of the hottest bats in the league.
  • Austin hit in all three games of the Florida series and has now recorded a knock in 18-of-19.
  • Over the 15-game hitting streak, Austin batted a blistering .418 with nine RBI, five doubles and three homers.
  • In the past 19 games, Austin is hitting .386 with a team-leading 16 runs scored.
  • The left fielder has walked 12 times and been hit twice to reach at a team-leading .482 clip in the 19-game run.
  • The 15-game hitting stretch raised Austin’s average from .237 to .311 on the year. His OPS went from .736 to .916 over the run.

HOMER HISTORY

  • The 2022 Tigers set Mizzou’s BBCOR-era home run standard with 57 long balls and counting this season.
  • The Tigers are on pace for 61 home runs this season, which would be the most since a school-record 110 in 1998.
  • In available records dating to 1950, only nine Mizzou teams have hit 55 or more homers in a season.

SCOUTING THE JAYHAWKS

  • Kansas enters Tuesday’s contest at 20-32 on the season and 4-17 in the Big 12 after being swept by TCU over the weekend.
  • The Jayhawks are paced at the plate by Maui Ahuna who hits .394 with eight homers and 47 RBI. Nolan Metcalf and Caleb Upshaw also hit above .300, with Metcalf producing 47 RBI.
  • Kansas has struggled on the mound, owning a 7.81 team ERA. Opponents hit .301 off the Jayhawk pitching staff which has walked 252 batters and hit another 68.
