Panthers end regular season with loss at William Jewell

LIBERTY, Mo. – The Drury Panthers ended the regular season with a 19-2 loss at William Jewell on Sunday in Liberty, Missouri.
 
Drury will head to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament with a 36-14, a 21-7 mark in league play, and they will be the top seed out of the Green Division. The Cardinals ended the regular season 30-19 and 15-13 in the GLVC.
 
William Jewell got on the board with three runs in the second inning, and after the Panthers pulled within a run of the lead in the fourth, the Cardinals added two more runs in the bottom half of the inning. William Jewell scored three times in the fifth, then put the game away with 11 runs in the sixth inning.
 
Drury’s runs came from solo home runs by Nikko Calabro, his 13th of the year, and Cooper Munro, his fifth. Brant Schaffitzel had two of Drury’s five hits as the senior went 2 for 2 at the plate.
 
The Cardinals took advantage of 10 walks issued by Drury pitching and the Cardinals hit a pair of grand slams in their 11-run sixth.
 
Tyler Bastunas (4-1) took the loss for Drury as the Panthers lost for the first time in any of his eight starts. Jackson Bodinson (7-1) got the win for William Jewell.
 
Drury will play in the opening round of the GLVC Tournament on Thursday at the Lou Brock Complex in St. Charles, Missouri. The bracket and schedule will be released by the league Sunday night.
