Kristina Bettis named GLVC Pitcher of the Year; five Panthers named All-GLVC

 SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury’s Kristina Bettis was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year and five Panthers were named to the All-GLVC team in a vote of league coaches this week.
 
Bettis is the first Drury softball player in program history to win a major award from the GLVC. The junior from Swansea, Illinois ended the regular season with a 22-3 record and a 1.25 earned run average. She led the league and set a single-season program record in strikeouts with 234. Bettis’ 22 wins also set a new team single-game record and she led the conference with a .155 average to opposing hitters. She set a Drury single-game record with 16 strikeouts on April 2 at Missouri-St. Louis, and she fired Drury’s first no-hitter in 10 years on March 14 at Rockhurst. In addition to Pitcher of the Year honors, Bettis was a unanimous selection as First Team All-GLVC.
 
Rylee Kolb was a Second Team All-GLVC pick in the outfield. Kolb is hitting .382 with three home runs and 22 RBI’s. The Jefferson City native leads the Panthers with a .584 slugging percentage.
 
Abby Tiemann was also named a Second Team All-GLVC pick in the outfield. An O’Fallon, Missouri native, Tiemann is batting .350 with 16 RBI’s. She ranks third in the conference in hits with 62, and is fourth in steals with 21.
 
Lauren Beier was a Third Team All-GLVC honoree at first base marking the second all-conference selection of her career. Beier, a junior from Pevely, Missouri, is hitting .316 with seven home runs and 28 RBI’s.
 
Sydney Sneed was also voted a Third Team All-GLVC performer as a utility player. The native of Bentonville, Arkansas, is posting a .358 average with two homers, 16 RBIs, and a .516 slugging percentage.
 
The Panthers are 35-14 and finished third in the GLVC with a 21-7 record, their best mark in team in history in conference play.
 
Drury is scheduled to play Illinois Springfield in the opening round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. Thursday’s games were rained out and the tournament is now set to begin on Friday. The Panthers will face the Prairie Stars at 2 pm on Friday at the Eastside Centre in East Peoria, Illinois.
