Drury earns bid to NCAA-II Tournament; Panthers face Grand Valley St. in 1st round

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— The Drury women’s tennis team received an at-large bid to the NCAA-II National Championship Tournament and will play Grand Valley State on Friday at 2 pm in Bolivar, Missouri, as part of the Midwest Regional #2 bracket.
 
The Panthers are 16-3 and last week advanced to the Great Lakes Valley Conference semifinals, where they fell to 11th ranked Indianapolis. Drury is the number three seed in the Midwest Regional. Grand Valley State is 14-6 and also received an at-large bid to the tournament. The Lakers are seeded sixth.
 
The winner of Friday’s match will advance to the sub-regional championship on Saturday at 1 pm and play the winner of second-seeded Southwest Baptist (14-7) and number seven seed Findlay (13-6). SBU is the sub-regional tournament host, with all three tournament matches taking place on their campus.
 
The winner of the sub-regional tournament will advance to the national championship final site and be one of 16 teams competing at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida, May 17-21.
 
This season will mark the 23rd time Drury has advanced to a national tournament, and it is the 19th time in 20 years the Panthers have reached the NCAA-II tournament.
