Panthers celebrate Senior Day with 19-6 win over Missouri-St. Louis

OZARK, Mo. – The Drury Panthers closed out their home schedule in grand style as they celebrated 17 graduating players with a 19-6 win over Missouri-St. Louis at US Baseball Park in Ozark on Sunday afternoon.
 
The win completed a four-game series sweep of the Tritons and put Drury’s record at 33-13 and 18-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. UMSL fell to 13-28 and 12-12 in the league.
 
The Tritons scored a run in the opening frame, but Drury took the lead for good with two in the bottom of the first on a double by DJ McNew that scored two runners. The Panthers made it 6-1 an inning later, getting a solo home run from Stephen Randazzo, his 10th of the year, a sacrifice fly from Jackson Dierenfeldt, and a two-run double by Nikko Calabro.
 
Drury turned the game into a route with four more runs in the third, then five in the fourth.
 
Several of Drury’s pregame honorees had monster afternoons. Dierenfeldt had four RBI’s, Brant Schaffitzel went 3 for 3 with three runs and a walk, Aaron Mann went 3 for 5 with two RBI’s, Calabro hit two doubles and drove in three, and McNew had a five-RBI afternoon.
 
Tyler Bastunas (5-0) got the win for Drury going five innings while seniors Logan Pittman, Colby Childs, Tom Tewes, and Austin Anderson all made an appearance and none of the four surrendered a run.
 
Jack Rhodes (1-3) took the loss.
 
With four conference games remaining, Drury will enter the final week of the regular season with a two-game lead in the Green Division. The Panthers are 18-6 in the league, two games better than second-place Maryville, who is 16-8.
 
Drury completed the home schedule with a 29-6 record at US Baseball Park.
 
The Panthers play their final four games of the regular season with a series at William Jewell. Game one of the series is Friday at 3 pm at Talley Stadium in Liberty, Missouri.
