Baldwin’s Slam Sparks Comeback Win for Bears

Season Statistics

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Missouri State’s Drake Baldwin hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to tie the score and the Bears scored 11 unanswered runs against Indiana State at Bob Warn Field to pick up their seventh consecutive victory by an 11-4 final.

The Sycamores (21-13, 6-5 Missouri Valley Conference) scored four in the third on three solo homers and a sacrifice fly, and the Bears (21-18, 5-6) loaded the bases with nobody out in the fifth thanks to singles by Jaden Rolffs and Spencer Nivens on either side of a Hayden Moore walk. Baldwin stepped in and bombed his eighth homer of the season and second career grand slam over the right-center fence to even the score.

Forrest Barnes went into the sixth in the start before handing it over the Eric Loomis (2-0) with one out, who proceeded to face the minimum on 25 pitches in a career-high 3.2 innings.

With Loomis holding the ISU bats in check, the Bears erupted for their 17th inning of five-plus runs this season and 13th game in double figures with a six-run seventh.

Moore led off with a double and scored the first run on a wild pitch, Dakota Kotowski walked with the bases loaded, Mason Hull hit a three-run double and Moore capped it with an RBI single, collecting a hit batting both left- and right-handed in the inning.

Walker Jenkins added a solo home run in the ninth for the 11-4 final. Nivens, Grant Wood, Hull and Moore each had two-hit days as the Bears had 12 on the day.

Game 12 p.m. Central on Sunday.
