Mann’s Big Day Guides Tigers Past Missouri State

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Junior Luke Mann went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI to lead Missouri baseball to a 6-5 win over in-state rival Missouri State on Tuesday night at Taylor Stadium.

Mizzou (22-12) scored five times in the third inning, sparked by Mann’s two-run home run to jump in front. Mann later added an RBI double in the sixth to plate what proved to be the difference maker in the win. Senior Tre Morris added two RBI with his third inning double and scored on a wild pitch to account for the rest of the Tigers’ production.

Missouri State (14-18) rallied late, scoring twice in the seventh before plating a run in the ninth to pull within one with the bases loaded. Ian Lohse entered from the bullpen to strikeout Bears slugger Dakota Kotowski to preserve the win and pick up his second save of the season.

Left-hander Christian Wall (2-2) earned the win on the mound with three strong innings in the start. Wall struck out four without issuing a walk while scattering two hits in a scoreless outing.

IMPACT INNING

For a second consecutive game, Mizzou struck for a big number in the third inning. The Tigers pounced on three walks to score five times on just two hits. Mann’s two-run homer, a line drive at 109 mph off the bat, started the inning before a pair of walks set the table for Morris. The catcher hooked a two-run double inside the left field line to make it 4-0 before scoring on a wild pitch to give the black and gold a five-run advantage.
