Missouri State Visits Tuesday to Conclude Homestand

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri baseball (21-12, 5-10 SEC) wraps a five-game homestand by welcoming in-state foe Missouri State (14-17, 0-6 MVC) on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on SEC Network +.

Fans can also catch Mizzou baseball on the airwaves all season long on KTGR and the Tiger Radio Network. Tex Little and Matt Michaels will have the call.

PITCHING PROBABLES

Mizzou will send lefty Christian Wall to the mound for his second start as a Tiger. Wall is 1-2 on the season with a 6.91 ERA in 11 appearances.

Missouri State will start left-hander Reece Lang on Tuesday night. Lang is 0-1 in nine appearances, including seven starts. He owns a 5.12 ERA in 31.2 innings of work.

SERIES BUSINESS

  • Mizzou and Missouri State meet for the 61st time on Tuesday night. The Tigers trail the all-time series 29-31.
  • Tuesday’s meeting is the first of two this season, as the Tigers will make the return trip to Springfield next week.
  • Mizzou leads the series 20-14 when playing in Columbia.
  • The Bears claimed the lone meeting in 2021, 7-5, but the Tigers have won four of the last five in the series.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Missouri rallied to earn a series win over Kentucky, taking the final two games of the set at Taylor Stadium.
  • The Tigers rode a masterful outing from freshman Tony Neubeck on Friday to even the series. The southpaw tossed a career-long seven innings while scattering three hits and allowing just two runs. He struck out five and did not issue a walk.
  • Saturday’s finale saw the Tigers complete an improbable comeback after falling behind 6-0 in the first two innings. Mizzou scored eight in the third to take the lead and never looked back in a 10-6 win.
  • Ross Lovich finished the weekend 4-for-8 at the plate with five RBI. He also swiped a pair of bags in the series win.

WHAT’S THE FOX SAY

  • Designated hitter Fox Leum continued his heater with a 4-for-10 weekend against Kentucky, including a pair of homers and three RBI.
  • Over the past 10 games, Leum leads the Tigers with a .412 batting average and .794 slugging percentage. He’s produced a team-leading 13 RBI and an OPS of 1.281.

MAGIC 8-BALL

  • Mizzou used an eight-run third inning in Saturday’s finale against Kentucky to storm back from a 6-0 deficit to claim the series.
  • The Tigers put the eight runs on the board without an extra-base hit, using six singles to power the pivotal inning. Mizzou also capitalized on a pair of walks and two hit-by-pitches in the inning.
  • Josh Day added to the inning in painful fashion, garnering both HBPs in the frame. He also stole a bag and scored a run as the Tigers sent 13 men to the plate.

SCOUTING THE BEARS

  • Missouri State enters Tuesday’s matchup at 14-17 on the season and 0-6 in Missouri Valley play.
  • The Bears are mired in a seven-game losing streak after being swept by Evansville over the weekend.
  • Missouri State hits .297 as a team, led by Mason Greer at .355 with five homers and 30 RBI. Two more Bears, Drake Baldwin and Spencer Nivens hit .350 each with 30 and 26 RBI, respectively.
  • On the mound, the Bears have worked to a 5.88 ERA as a team.
