Drury wrestling ranked number one in NCAA-II grade point average; six wrestlers named Scholar All-Americans

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—  The Drury University wrestling team was named the academic national champion in 2022 by the National Wrestling Coaches Association as they posted a 3.54-grade point average and had six members of the squad named Scholar All-Americans. The 3.54 team GPA by the Panthers also proved to be a historically strong mark as it is the fourth-best grade point average since the NWCA began tracking the awards in 1993-94.

“We are extremely proud of our team,” Drury Head Coach James Reynolds said. “This award speaks to the hard work of our student-athletes in the classroom and the great support from our faculty and support staff at Drury University. Drury Wrestling will continue to raise the bar and push for excellence on and off the mat.”

In addition to the team honor, the six Panthers that earned the Scholar All-American honors included: Tucker Caswell (Jr., Fulton, Mo., Marketing), Brandon Borlinghaus (Fr., Kansas City, Mo., Marketing), Will Kuster (Fr., Jefferson City, Mo., Cyber-Risk Management), Sam Schultz (Fr., Chesterfield, Mo., Accounting), Connor Zimmermann (Jr., DeSoto, Mo., Cyber-Risk Management), and Peter Kuster (Jr., Jefferson City, Mo., Exercise Physiology).

Caswell earned his fourth Scholar All-American, while Zimmermann, Peter Kuster, Will Kuster, and Schultz have also won multiple academic honors in their careers.

The Panthers finished their sixth season of intercollegiate competition in 2021-22 and Reynolds has guided the program for each of their six seasons.
