Drury takes down Northern Iowa 5-2

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury took down NCAA-I opponent Northern Iowa 5-2 on Saturday at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.
 
The Panthers, ranked 24th in NCAA-II, won their fifth straight to improve to 13-2, while Northern Iowa dropped to 5-13.
 
Drury took a 1-0 lead in the match, winning two of the three doubles match-ups. DU’s top doubles combo of Kseniia Eremina and Ewa Samberger won 6-3, and their number doubles team of Alma Abazi and Nastasia Jedrychowski earned a 6-2 victory.
 
In singles play, Clara Kuehnle put the Panthers up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Thaissa Moreira, then Drury claimed a 3-0 advantage after Maria De La Torre Espejo’s 6-4, 6-1 victory over Olivia Fain.
 
Drury clinched the win on Alma Abazi’s victory over Emma Carr, 6-2, 7-6. The Panthers tacked on another win as Kseniia Eremina defeated Issa Sullivan 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. 
 
Drury is in action again next Friday when they travel to Quincy for a 2 pm match in Quincy, Illinois.
