Tigers Stopped by No. 69 LSU, 4-2

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri (7-18, 2-10 SEC) dropped its match against No. 69 LSU (4-12, 4-8 SEC), 4-2, on Friday afternoon. The team celebrated its two seniors, Bronte Murgett and Ellie Wright, prior to the start of the match.

Mizzou dropped the doubles point but made a showing in singles play. Murgett led the team with the first singles win of the match, defeating No. 83 Safiya Carrington, 6-1, 6-2. Emelie Schwarte followed with a dominant third set victory against Taylor Bridges, 6-2, 5-7, 6-0. Wright pushed her opponent, Nina Geissler, to the brink, nearly making a comeback of her own but coming up just short. Despite strong efforts on the remaining courts, No. 69 LSU clinched the match.

Murgett and Wright were honored before the match with flowers and custom jerseys. The duo made a large impact on the Mizzou Tennis program. Murgett was the first player to reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament and Wright ranks sixth all time with 70 singles wins.

The Tigers are back in action on Sunday, April 17, for their final match of the season against No. 6 Texas A&M. The match is slated for 9 a.m. and live stats, streaming, and Twitter updates will be available.
