Five Homers Power Tigers Past No. 14/13 Georgia

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Jenna Laird hit two of the Tigers’ five home runs on the day, leading University of Missouri softball (25-16, 5-8 SEC) past No. 14/13 Georgia (34-9, 8-6 SEC) by a score of 6-2. After allowing a pair of solo home runs in the first two innings, Jordan Weber kept the Bulldogs off the board for the final five innings.

RECAP

Each team traded solo homers in the first and second innings. Sara Mosley put Georgia out in front in the top of the first inning with a two-out solo shot to left, but she was matched by Jenna Laird’s drive to right center in the bottom half.

Jayda Kearney put Georgia back on top in the second with a drive to right center before she was matched with a Kendyll Bailey solo homer to left in the home half.

After Weber retired the side in just five pitches in the top of the fifth, the Tigers stepped back up to the plate. With two outs, Jenna Laird drove a 1-0 offering over the center field wall to give Mizzou its first lead of the day. Brooke Wilmes followed Laird with a shot over the right field wall, making it 4-2 for the Tigers.

With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Alex Honnold grounded a single through the right side and Megan Moll crushed a pinch-hit, two-run homer to left field.

Jordan Weber closed out the seventh to pick up her third seven-inning, complete-game win of the year.

NOTES

Jenna Laird led the way with the second multi-home run game of her career.

Kendyll Bailey extended her on-base streak to 17 games with her solo home run in the second inning.

Megan Moll crushed her second home run of the year with a long blast to left field in the sixth.

Casidy Chaumont has hit for extra bases in six straight games after doubling in the third.

Emma Raabe recorded her third multi-hit game of the season with a single and a double.

Jordan Weber went all seven innings while allowing only two runs on three hits, two walks and two strikeouts.

The Tigers blasted five home runs in the contest. Mizzou has three games with five or more homers on the year.

Seven of the Tigers’ nine hits went for extra bases.

UP NEXT

Mizzou will go for the series win on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Mizzou Softball Stadium. Amanda Scarborough and Mark Neely will call the game on ESPN2.
