24th ranked Panthers hand UMSL their first conference loss in 4-1 road win

CHESTERFIELD, Mo.— The Panthers handed Missouri-St. Louis their first conference loss as Drury picked up a 4-1 road win on Friday in Chesterfield, Missouri.
 
The 24th ranked Panthers went to 12-2 and 3-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Tritons dropped to 7-6 and 2-1 in the GLVC.
 
With the threat of inclement weather, the match moved to indoor courts, shifted to leading with singles play and ended on the clinching point.
 
Playing in Drury’s lead singles position, Ewa Samberger got a 6-3, 6-1 win over Odette Beagrie. Clara Kuehlne earned a 7-5, 6-0 victory over UMSL’s Leticia Lunge in the number four spot. Nastasia Jedrychowski was awarded a 6-2, 6-5 win over Maja Lietzau and Maria De La Torre Espejo won by default. The match did not advance to doubles play.
 
The victory marked Drury’s fourth win in a row. The Panthers are back at home on Saturday when they host Northern Iowa at 2 pm at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
