Panthers get six top five finishes at Pittsburg State

PITTSBURG, Kan.— Drury’s track & field squads competed in their third outdoor meet of the season in the 14th Annual David Suenram Gorilla Classic hosted by Pittsburg State in Pittsburg, Kansas.
 
The Panthers picked up six top five finishes and had two individuals pick up provisional qualifying marks for the NCAA-II national meet.
 
Women’s Highlights
 

  • Jolie McClellan finished second in the javelin and posted a provisional qualifying mark with a throw of 46.32 meters
  • Drury runners finished 3-4-7 in a field of 25 runners in the 1500 meter run. Katie McCune was third and set a provisional qualifying time (4:32.45). Claire McCune was fourth (4:33.39) and Bradley Weimer came in seventh (4:46.29).
  • Jacy Rule was ninth among 21 runners in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:00.10

 
Men’s Highlights
 

  • Tracy Gates came in third in the triple jump with a distance of 13.80 meters
  • William Purifoy was third in the 1500 meter run (15:34.77), while Thomas Nield was fifth (16:01.06) and Andrew Nield was eighth (16:16.52) in a 21-runner field

 
Drury track & field competes in a pair of events next weekend as they take part in the Mule Relays at Central Missouri in Warrenburg as well as the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific in Azusa, California on April 15.
