Panthers fall at SBU in GLVC opener

 
SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Southwest Baptist picked up a win at home over 21^st ranked Drury in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener on Saturday in Bolivar, Missouri.
 
The Panthers had their seven-game winning streak snapped and fell to 8-2 and 0-1 in the GLVC. The Bearcats evened their record at 7-7 and went to 1-0 in the league.
 
Drury took a 1-0 lead, winning two of the three doubles matches. Alma Abazi and Natasia Jedrychowski earned a 6-2 win, and Clara Kuehlne and Viktoriya Zheleva picked up a 6-1 victory.
 
The Bearcats then won five of the six singles matches with only Jedrychowski getting a win. Jedrychowski defeated Elsa Pascual 6-3, 6-3. Three of the six singles matches went to a third set, but the Bearcats won all three of those on their way to a home victory.
 
Drury returns home for a match on Sunday against Southern Arkansas at 11 am at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.
