Randazzo’s run in the 8th lifts Panthers past Maryville 5-4

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Stephen Randazzo scored from third base on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth inning to help lift Drury past Maryville 5-4 on Friday in the first game of a four-game weekend series in St. Louis, Missouri.
 
The Panthers improved to 19-6 and 4-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Saints fell to 13-11 and 3-2 in the league.
 
With the game tied at 4-4 in the eighth, Randazzo led off the frame, reaching base when he was hit by a pitch. Tyler Bastunas’ sacrifice bunt advanced him to second base, then a ground ball by Wes Collins put Randazzo a third.
 
In addition to scoring the winning run, Randazzo belted his seventh home run of the year and went 3 for 3 at the plate with a double, two RBI’s and two runs scored. Austin Fennewald went 2 for 4 with a home run, his second of the year, and two RBI’s.
 
Cody Bahl (5-2) got the win for the Panthers as he went seven innings allowing six hits, four earned runs, and one walk with five strikeouts. Nate Boyle retired all three batters he faced in the ninth inning to earn his third save.
 
Noah Arras (1-3) took the loss in a relief appearance for Maryville.
 
The two teams resume the series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon in St. Louis.
