Cole Breeden and Cameron Smith finish 8th at MLF National Championship

WAGONER, Okla.— Drury’s Cole Breeden and Cameron Smith finished eighth at the Major League Fishing national championship tournament on Thursday at Fort Gibson Lake in Wagoner, Oklahoma.
 
Breeden and Smith qualified for Thursday’s third and final round by finishing in the top 10 among 176 boats through two rounds of competition earlier in the week. The duo then caught two fish weighing a total of five pounds in the championship and moved up one spot from ninth to eighth in the final standings.
 
Breeden and Smith rallied to the top 10 after finishing Tuesday’s opening round in 107th place. On Wednesday, the two landed their limit of five fish and totaled 21 pounds, 9 ounces to jump all the way to ninth place on the leaderboard. They completed the tournament with eight fish and a total of 29 pounds, 1 ounce.
 
Kaden Proffitt and Carson Ragsdale from East Texas Baptist won the tournament with 14 fish and 43 pounds, 8 ounces.
 
Drury’s Beau Browning and Hunter Baird finished 16th (seven fish – 9 lbs., 12 oz), while Brock Bila and Jack Rankin came in 52nd as they landed a two-day total of five fish (12 lbs, 9 oz.).
 
The Drury bass fishing team returns to action next weekend in the MLF Central Conference event on April 8 on Table Rock Lake, and the ACA Collegiate Bass Fishing tour stop at the Ross Barnett Reservoir near Ridgeland, Miss., on April 9-10.
