Breeden & Smith’s big second day puts them back in MLF national championship hunt

WAGONER, Okla.— Drury’s defense of their Major League Fishing national championship took a major turn on Wednesday as Cole Breeden and Cameron Smith surged from 107th place to ninth on the second day of competition at Fort Gibson Lake in Wagoner, Oklahoma.
 
Breeden and Smith had the biggest day among the 176 boats as they landed their limit of five fish and totaled 21 pounds, 9 ounces. The duo made the cut in the top 10 with a two-day total of six fish at 24 pounds, one ounce. Breeden and Smith won the national title last year, and their spot in the top 10 allows them to compete for the title in Thursday’s final round of competition.
 
Drury’s Beau Browning and Hunter Baird also made a jump on Wednesday, going from 77th place to 16th as the two caught five fish totaling 15 pounds, seven ounces for a tournament total of seven fish and 19 pounds, 12 ounces. Brock Bila and Jack Rankin moved up 42 spots from day one to finish 52nd as they landed a two-day total of five fish (12 lbs, 9 oz.).
 
Kaden Proffitt and Carson Ragsdale from East Texas Baptist lead the event after two days with nine fish and 29 pounds, seven ounces.
