Panthers host Southern Indiana and McKendree this weekend

Drury Panthers battle Southern Indiana, McKendree this weekend
The Drury Panthers are back at home for two matches this weekend as Drury hosts Southern Indiana on Friday afternoon at 12:30, then McKendree on Sunday at 2:30 pm.

The Panthers are in fourth place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with a 5-1-2 league record and a 5-4-2 mark overall. Southern Indiana comes to Springfield at 5-5 and 4-4 in the GLVC, while McKendree carries a five-game winning streak into the weekend and is 6-2-3 overall and 6-2-1 in the conference. The Bearcats are at Missouri S&T on Friday night before coming to Drury on Sunday.

Drury’s Jamie O’Brien has a team-leading six goals, a total tied for third in the GLVC. Goalkeeper Yannick Lamers owns a 0.80 goals-against-average and ranks fourth in the league with that mark.

Southern Indiana is coming off a 2-1, double-overtime loss to William Jewell. The Screaming Eagles’ Zach Barton has six goals to lead his team and is also tied for third in the GLVC in scoring. Drury has won their last two meetings against USI.

McKendree’s James Stone leads the GLVC with eight goals. Drury beat the Bearcats last year 3-2 in overtime on a goal by Jayd Hamdaoua. Three of the last four meetings between the teams have been decided in overtime, and McKendree has won three of those four contests.

After this weekend’s games, Drury hits the road for a game at Lewis on Friday at 7:30 pm.
