Panthers put unbeaten GLVC record on the line this weekend
The Drury Panthers will put their unbeaten conference record on the line this weekend when they host Southern Indiana on Friday and McKendree on Sunday.
Drury carries an eight-game winning streak into Friday’s match as the Panthers are 10-1, 8-0 in the GLVC, and they are alone in first place in the league standings. Southern Indiana has won three in a row, and they are 5-4-2 and 3-4-1 in the conference. McKendree is in second place in the GLVC with a 9-1-1 overall record and a 7-1-1 mark in the league. The Bearcats enter the weekend with a six-game winning streak and are at Missouri S&T on Friday before they take on Drury Sunday.
The Panthers will be looking for their first win over Southern Indiana since 2015. Drury is 8-8 against the Screaming Eagles but has lost five straight in the all-time series. The Panthers lost at USI last season, 4-0.
Drury is 8-5-1 all-time against McKendree and lost to the Bearcats last year 2-1 in Lebanon, Illinois. The Panthers have also not beaten McKendree since 2015, but the teams battled to a 1-1 tie in 2017.
Panthers forward Elsa Gonzalez is the GLVC’s reigning Player of the Week, coming off a three-goal performance in two matches last week. The sophomore from Spain ranks second in the conference in goals scored with seven and points with 16. Goalkeeper Kaitlin Knetzke is the NCAA-II leader in goals-against-average with a 0.10 GAA.
Jill DiTusa leads Southern Indiana and is tied for fifth in the GLVC with five goals. Keely Thompson’s three assists are tied for fourth in the league.
McKendree is led by Anna Stiffler, who leads the GLVC in assists with five. Her five goals are also tied for fifth in the conference, and her 15 points are tied for third in the league.
Following this weekend, Drury travels to Lewis for a game on Friday at 5 pm.
