COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball (1-4) earned its first win of the season in sweeping fashion, downing Northern Kentucky (2-2) 26-24, 25-22, 25-20 on Saturday in the Cardinal Classic.
Freshman Kaylee Cox led the Tigers with 11 kills while adding 17 digs for her first career double-double. Graduate student Brynn Carlson chipped in another 10 kills for the Black and Gold in the victory.
The Tigers were also highly efficient out of the middle, with senior Anna D’Cruz flooring eight kills and freshman Kayla Burbage adding six. Burbage hit a team best .455 while D’Cruz hit .438.
Kaylee Cox: 11 kills on .233 hitting, 17 digs, 1 block
Brynn Carlson: 10 kills on .235 hitting, 5 digs
Emily Brown: 15 digs
Kayla Burbage: 6 kills on .455 hitting, 4 blocks
- Mizzou produced a season-best seven blocks, led by Burbage with four.
- Burbage, Cox and D’Cruz all recorded solo blocks in the match.
- Cox’s 17 digs were a season high for any Mizzou player.
- The Tigers hit .287 as a team in the victory.
Mizzou concludes action at the Cardinal Classic on Sunday against South Dakota. First serve is set for 9:30 a.m. CT.
