Julia Krebs named assistant coach for Drury volleyball

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- Drury women’s volleyball head coach Jenifer Bahner has named Julia Krebs as the program’s new assistant coach.
Krebs joins the staff from the University of the Southwest, where she served as the head coach for the New Mexico-based program in the NAIA last year. In her lone season leading the program, her Mustangs were limited to only 16 matches due to the coronavirus pandemic. Krebs served as a graduate assistant coach at Avila University in Kansas City from 2018 to 2019, and she was a student-assistant coach for the men’s volleyball squad at Missouri Valley College following her playing career with the Vikings in 2017.
“I am so excited to have Julia joining our coaching staff,” said Bahner. “Julia has proven herself successful as both an athlete and coach in our sport.  As a young assistant coach, I believe she will bring a fresh energy to our program and I know her experience as a head coach at the NAIA level will be a great building block for her future as a Drury Panther. I am so excited for our players to get the opportunity to work with an assistant coach that shares my passion, commitment, and desire for continuous improvement.  We are lucky to have Julia as a part of our program and I know she will be a great addition to Drury University Athletics.”
Playing for Missouri Valley, Krebs helped the Vikings to a 33-11 record during her senior year in 2017. She received academic honors as a two-time recipient of the NAIA’s Scholar-Athlete award and earned her team’s Champions of Character award in 2017.
“I’m not just excited about returning home, but also because Drury has always been a university that has been highly respected,” said Krebs. “Coach Bahner has also done a great job in building up the volleyball program, and I’m excited to be a part of its future success.”
Julia replaces assistant Ashley Emery, who stepped down at the end of last season.
The Panthers are scheduled to open the volleyball season on Sept. 3 when they host the Drury Invitational at the O’Reilly Family Event Center.
